  1. LOD Version 2.10+ Packaging information

  4.        Since LOD has been growing larger and larger, I have resorted to a
  5. new distribution format. LOD itself is now comprised of a total of
  6. FOUR distribution archives:
  7.  
  8.        LOD210A.ARJ  -  Sysop and User documentation     [REQUIRED]
  9.  
  10.        LOD210B.ARJ  -  Main LOD program and data        [REQUIRED]
  11.  
  12.        LOD210C.ARJ  -  EGA version                      [OPTIONAL]
  13.  
  14.        LOD210D.ARJ  -  EGA additional graphics library  [OPTIONAL]
  15.  
  16.        LOD210E.ARJ  -  Sysop customization package      [OPTIONAL]
  17.  
  18.        Only the first TWO of these archives are required for operation of
  19. LOD. This is LOD in it's most basic setup.
  20.  
  21.        The second two archives are used for the EGA version of Land
  22. Of Devastation. They include the EGA-specific .EXE file, picture data,
  23. etc.
  24.  
  25.        The fifth archive contains editors and utilities for sysops who
  26. like to take an active role in controlling their games.

  28. In more detail....

  31.        LOD210A.ARJ [REQUIRED]
  32.  
  33.        This file contains LOD's installation instructions, sysop
  34. documentation, and user documentation. I seperated these out so people
  35. may D/L just the doc files for LOD so they can get a sort of "preview"
  36. of the game before downloading the rest of the package.

  39.        LOD210B.ARJ [REQUIRED]
  40.  
  41.        In here is the "guts" of the game. The text version (i.e. non-EGA)
  42. .exe file, all of the ansi images, all of the data files, etc. This is
  43. REQUIRED if you wish to install LOD.

  46.        LOD210C.ARJ [OPTIONAL]
  47.  
  48.        Here you'll find the EGA-Specific version of LOD. Included is the
  49. executable (GAMEEGA.EXE) and the primary graphics resource files. You'll
  50. need this if you wish to run the EGA version of LOD. (Note: You still
  51. need LOD210A and LOD210B)

  54.        LOD210D.ARJ [OPTIONAL]
  55.  
  56.        This is an optional additional graphics package to be used with
  57. the EGA version of LOD. It includes what we call the "bigpics". These are
  58. pictures that pop-up in LOD's map window from time to time - They show
  59. you using a laptop, fighting monsters, attacking bases, etc. This file is
  60. purely for cosmetic purposes and not required for game play. It does make
  61. stuff look much nicer though.

  63.        LOD210E.ARJ [OPTIONAL]

  65.        This is the sysop customization package. It includes all of the
  66. editors, utilities, and other tools needed to customize and alter the
  67. play of your game. It is fully optional and not required in any
  68. way.

  70. And what about GTERM?
  71. ---------------------
  72.  
  73.        Gterm is the REMOTE TERMINAL for Land of Devastation. If your users
  74. run it, they can get full EGA graphics regardless of which version you
  75. run.
  76.        The EGA terminal really enhances play for the users and I recommend
  77. they grab it if they want to seriously play the game.

  83. So, to summarize:

  86.        If you want the TEXT-ONLY version of LOD, just download LOD210A.ARJ
  87. and LOD210B.ARJ. (Note: Even if you use this text-only version, you're users
  88. can still download GTERM and have EGA graphics on their side)

  90.        If you want the EGA/TEXT version of LOD, download LOD210A.ARJ,
  91. LOD210B.ARJ, and LOD210C.ARJ. This will display EGA pictures on YOUR
  92. side. (Note: Users may play in text with a normal terminal or in
  93. EGA using Gterm)

  95.        If you want LOD decked out with ALL of it's EGA graphics, grab
  96. LOD210A.ARJ, LOD210B.ARJ, LOD210C.ARJ, and LOD210D.ARJ. You'll have the
  97. full EGA graphical display, complete with all pictures and data.

  99.        If you like to play around with the game and alter some of the
  100. default parameters and such, then you might like LOD210E.ARJ - it includes
  101. all of the necessary tools for customizing your game.

  103.        If your USERS want to play in EGA, then they can download
  104. GTERM210.ARJ. It'll give them EGA capabilities on their end regardless of
  105. the version of LOD which you are running.
